Saving macros across workbooks in 2007

Postby lukawtr » Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:07 pm

Can I save a "startup file" for Excel 2007 that would have my personal macros just like you did for 2003? I tried to follow along, but there is no customizing or adding toolbars in 2007 according to Help. If I save an Excel workbook with my saved macros in the same location as I saved the WST Addins file will that work?

Yes, you have to place it in the XLSTART folder which varies based on your operating system.
Excel will load all files in that folder when starting up.

See following links to pinpoint the location of the XLSTART folders:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291218

For later versions of Windows and new Excel, see this link:

If you save the Excel workbook with your saved macros in the same Add-ins folder, it will not load unless it is saved as a XLA (add-in) file.

In addition, per previous post communication, the reduced functionality of Excel 2007 can be blamed on Microsoft!
